Healthy eating is important at every age. The serving size recommendations for different age groups are tailored to address the specific dietary requirements based on growth needs in youth and the varying needs of older bodies. We all need vitamins and minerals provided by consumption of at least 2 cups of fruits and vegetables combined a day. The body needs the macro nutrients : carbohydrates, proteins, and fats no matter how old you are. What will vary are the amounts of these macro nutrients (the main nutrients our bodies survive upon). A growing body, and a menstruating growing, active body will need more. A person who is done growing will need different macro nutrients based on their age and activity level. This is important information for parents and teens to know. Check out this Healthy Eating for Teens Tip Sheet.
